D Blog Week: Day 1

This is my second year of participating in Diabetes Blog Week- so I'll be posting every day this week on the chosen topic. Today is "Change The World"

"Let’s kick off Diabetes Blog Week by talking about the diabetes causes and issues that really get us fired up. Are you passionate about 504 plans and school safety? Do diabetes misconceptions irk you? Do you fight for CGM coverage for Medicare patients, SDP funding, or test strip accuracy? Do you work hard at creating diabetes connections and bringing support? Whether or not you “formally” advocate for any cause, share the issues that are important to you. (Thanks go out to Kim of Texting my Pancreas for inspiring this topic.)"

My diabetes issue, for once isn't the media (I know, I'm shocked too!).
What I'm passionate about is fairly simple; equality.
I want to be assured that I can do whatever I want; be a speech pathologist, have kids, gain world domination.

All of the usual stuff.

I want to never have to hold back because of my diabetes, and to do that I need to be given equality.

Equality is in the simple things, like:
Exam provisions, so that I can sit my exams as hassle free as you do
Government subsidies, so I can have a source of insulin too
Respect, because I'm a person too and don't need to be judged for a condition beyond my control

My post is short and simple, give me the tools to live my life just as you do. Diabetics deserve the right to dream as large as they want- just like you.

  2. Being your own advocate is a big step in itself. I'm glad you're comfortable standing up for yourself!
